I was really taken by this band’s debut but lost track of them along the way which is to my great detriment since doom jazz is right up my dark alley! Shades of The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation and Bohren & der Club of Gore, but Five the Hierophant are much heavier than both and add their own indelible stamp to the genre.

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it. That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter.

This album is an absolute banger. The riffs are especially groovy this time, the vocals are amazing, and the overall thing is supercatchy. If I'd have to list one downside, it's that the mix is so bass-heavy that the sound only truely comes into it's right when listened on good headphones or extremely good speakers. On anything less it can sound like the bass drowns the rest of the music out. 9/10
